Founded in 2017, Clockwork Sessions have recorded for clients such as Hans Zimmer, Christian Henson, Craig ArmstrongJim Fowler, Thomas Hewitt-Jones, Spitfire Audio, Cinesamples, Sony, Netflix and BBC.

We are in a fortunate position to be able to offer our shared sessions with our Scottish Session Orchestra from our Clockwork Studios in Glasgow. In the UK we have a tradition of sight reading that’s second to none, plus years of studio experience and instruments such as Stradivarius, Guadagnini, and Gagliano in the room to offer the highest standard of soundtrack recording.

Drawing from the UK’s top session players, the SSO combines international soloists, concertmasters, orchestral principals, and chamber musicians (such as Laura Samuel, Rudi De Groote, Nikita Naumov and Maya Iwabuchi) with a wealth of studio experience. From studios such as Abbey Road, Air Lyndhrst and Angel, through to concert halls such as Royal Albert Hall, South Bank Center, and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, our musicians have featured on a host of recordings from Hollywood soundtracks to concertos with major orchestras - all recorded by our Grammy winning engineer David Donaldson. The orchestra recorded Spitfire Audio’s ‘Colossus’ and ‘Solstice’ sample libraries.

Video recorded in our shared session in November 2023

We had the smoothest experience working with Clockwork to record my piece remotely for a shared session. Full orchestra, fantastic musicians, great sounding room, and great communication with team. Can’t say enough good things about Clockwork studios!
— Amanda Muse (Cinesamples) Sept 2023
True to their name, my session ran like clockwork! I’ll be back soon - world-class playing, pristine recording - delighted with end result.
— Thomas Hewitt Jones Sept 2023
I can’t say enough about how professional the entire team has been at Clockwork. From sending an enquiry for a recording session, to preparation of the session, to the session day itself and post production, the team at Clockwork has given me complete peace of mind in the process of recording my music. They are communicative, informative, quick to respond, and friendly, easy-going people.

As for the orchestra, they are top notch! Their breathtaking performances not only exceeded my expectations, but brought a level of expression and emotion to my work that simply cannot be recreated with virtual instruments.

I will most certainly be working with them again as much as possible. And if you’re a composer researching the right orchestra to record your music, I can confidently tell you that your search is over. Clockwork Sessions is your answer.

FAQ’s

SCORE PREPARTION GUIDE:

1.) For sessions, as standard, we normally work with non-transposing scores in C to avoid any errors (session time wasting).

2.) Bar number above stave on every bar increases speed of recording and avoid errors.

3.)  It's very important to think of page turns for every player. Players can’t drop out to turn or have noise from page turns. Parts should be formatted on a 2 page spread. We can then tape a 3rd page if unavoidable..

4.) We use a 2bar count in so the score should start bar3 or upbeat to bar3.

DELIVERY CHECKLIST:

  • DEADLINE - 1 week prior to session

  • Sibelius file/PDF/xml with score and parts (Extracted in separate files)

  • Clearly names parts on every page

  • WW and Brass - 1 part per player (not sharing stands)

  • Only send parts that are to be recorded on the day

  • Check page turns, bar numbers, rehearsal marks and labelling

  • Repeats should include additional bar numbers to keep synch with PT.

  • Condense parts where possible to save printing

  • Score staff size at 3.5mm (Part Staff size 6mm minimum)
